Easter signals new beginnings and the departure from the cold, wintery weather towards the warmer, longer spring days. However for kids, Easter is mainly about the chocolate. For young ones, Easter egg hunts are the highlight of the season, with sun-drenched trails and bright adventures awaiting those with a nose for chocolate. National Trust Cadbury Egg Hunts

There’s more than 250 hunts taking place across England, Wales and Northern Ireland, so it shouldn't be hard to find one of the UK’s best loved chocolate’s hunts near you. Everyone who completes the hunt will be rewarded with a Cadbury treat, so it’s well worth getting your little ones involved. To really make a day of it, there’s also carnivals, face-painting, arts and crafts, and family games to keep everyone entertained.

Horniman Easter Fair

An extravaganza of a weekend, the Horniman Easter Fair is packed full of art and craft stalls, a farmers’ market, puppet making, face painting, screen printing, tea cup rides, bouncy castles, dance workshops, and a storytelling performance inspired by none other than Alice in Wonderland. Entry to the fair is free, with tickets to the storytelling costing £4.

Wynyard Hall, Durham

Wynyard Hall in Durham is hosting numerous fun-filled sessions on Easter Sunday for little ones. Set to be the home of a whole host of activities, including singing and storytelling, games, arts, and crafts, there’s something for all ages. There’s also set to be a competition for the best Easter bonnet – so get creative.

Tickets are £8 per child, with accompanying adults getting in for free.

Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens

Dinosaur lovers look no further! This egg hunt is dinosaur-themed from start to finish, so will please those looking for something different. On until Sunday 23 April, the museum will hide a sequence of dinosaur eggs among its Jurassic Gardens exhibition for eager hunters to find. There’ll also be a few surprises too, in the shape of dinosaur models nestled in-between lush vegetation.

Admission to the gardens is free, but the Easter trail does cost £2 per child.

Church Farm, Liverpool

Open from Good Friday until Easter Monday, Church Farm's Easter egg hunt starts with an adventure-filled a tractor ride into a magical forest, before the real hunt begins. Kids search for clues and play games to complete a puzzle page. Once they’ve figured it out, they’ll receive a certificate – and of course a delicious chocolate gift.

Pre-booked tickets cost £8.50 for adults and £8 for children – with kids under one year going for free. This price includes the egg hunt and a special Easter Bunny meet, as well as farm park admission which is home to animal feeding sessions and thrilling tractor rides.

Ideal for hiding in gardens and nooks and crannies around the home, add together with a few decorations and it will transform your home from plain to Easter-chic in no time. So invite your childs’ friends over and make a day of it. If you really want to get into the swing of it, you could also dress up as the Easter bunny!
