Exciting European Cities For Teens

The Easter break can never come soon enough for busy parents, offering a chance for a last-minute getaway to enjoy before the longer summer holidays begin! City breaks are perfect for this, providing plenty to do over the long Easter weekend. However, if you have teenage children then it can be difficult to get them excited for family holidays, especially when they have a hectic schedule of ‘hanging out’ to enjoy instead!

To combat this, here is our pick of exciting European cities for teens, to ensure that the whole family are happy this Easter.

Which city: Barcelona

Why you should go: This vibrant, arty city really does have something for everyone. Forget about ‘boring’ old buildings- the architecture seen throughout Barcelona looks like it came straight from the future, although much of it was designed as long ago as the 1800’s by visionary architect, Gaudi. In-between a busy weekend of visiting his creations at touristic destinations such as Parc Guell or the Sagrada Familia, foodie teens can enjoy experiencing tapas, the local ‘finger-food’ style of eating that is prevalent in Barcelona, while La Boqueria Food Market will open their eyes to a plethora of fresh produce to make their mouths water. Did we mention that it is also home to many incredible hot chocolate cafes such as Escribà and Petritxol? An instant sell for any sweet-toothed teen!

What about the weather?:  Average temperatures are around 13 °c, with some rainfall expected throughout April. Plenty of layers and a thin waterproof jacket should prepare for all possibilities!  

Which city: Rome

Why you should go: With gladiator battles, indulgent feasts and fascinating fashion, the Romans are often the most exciting ancient civilisation to teenagers at school. Visiting Rome makes these lessons a reality, with stunning buildings and scrumptious cuisine to please every traveller. Step straight into the shoes of a gladiator with a visit to the Colosseum, before browsing the fashion capital’s boutiques and shops and staying ahead of the trends. Whether your teen prefers ice-cream or pizza, Rome is filled with numerous cafes and restaurants to try out at the end of a busy day exploring.

What about the weather?: With highs of 19 °c and lows of 14 °c, the weather in April is warm enough to facilitate long days adventuring but is mild in comparison to its sweltering summer heat, with temperatures reaching up to 32°c!

Which city: Berlin

Why you should go: Like Rome and Barcelona, Berlin is packed with rich history, alongside a fine helping of urban culture to make it a go-to destination for many young, trendy adults. A visit to the Berlin Wall gives you chance to learn about the incredible story behind the border divide, while artsy teens can appreciate the famous graffiti that adorns it. While they might not be old enough to venture into the many clubs that the city is known for, there are other alternative sources of entertainment, such as the ‘black light’ Schwarzlicht Mini Golf to keep the whole family amused! For food, amongst themed restaurants such as the Clärchen’s Ballhaus, a mirror ballroom, the Berlin kebab found from many street vendors is a delicious version of England’s takeaway classic, and a ‘must-eat’ dish for every tourist!

What about the weather?:  Ranging from 7°c to 11 °c, it won’t be particularly warm, with some showers expected. However, there’s something exciting about roaming around this concrete city with grey skies overhead!
